The Codman Square site recruits STRIVE’s “regular” clientele, chronically unemployed men and women (in nearly equal numbers), mainly age 18 to 40, mostly from Dorchester and Roxbury.  About three-quarters are African Americans, 22% are married, 55% have children, and at least a quarter of them receive public assistance.  They generally test at the 8th to 9th grade level. Many of them need GED's and most have little or no work experience
