The Codman Square site recruits STRIVE’s “regular” clientele, chronically unemployed men and women (in nearly equal numbers), mainly age 18 to 40, mostly from Dorchester and Roxbury.  About three-quarters are African Americans, 22% are married, 55% have children, and at least a quarter of them receive public assistance.  They generally test at the 8th to 9th grade level. Many of them need GED's and most have little or no work experience In 2004 The Codman Square location placed 145 people into entry level positions.
